Skills for Chicagoland’s Future (Skills) hosted a new discussion and networking event, titled “On Topic.” Skills hopes to develop these discussions into a series designed to engage senior-level executives in conversations with Chicagoland leaders in the business, nonprofit, and government sectors. The events will also give attendees the opportunity to network with their peers and explore opportunities to partner with Skills.
The inaugural “On Topic” event featured a discussion facilitated by Skills founding president and CEO Marie Trzupek Lynch, with Ulta Beauty’s CEO, Mary Dillon. They conversation focused on Mary’s experience and expertise in leadership, community engagement, mentoring, and workforce development. The two offered their insight on a variety of topics including youth unemployment and how to address it, the importance of providing advancement opportunities to employees, the future of retail, and the value of partnerships in finding qualified, non-traditional talent for new hires.
The event was led by Greg Brown, Skills Chairman, and Motorola Solutions Chairman & CEO, and generously hosted by USG Corporation’s Jennifer Scanlon, President and CEO, and Brian Cook, EVP & Chief Administrative Officer and Skills Board Member. Attendees included a number of executives from major Chicagoland companies and nonprofits.
