Having worked in banking for over 15 years, Lynnettra H. was shocked when she was having a hard time finding work. After losing her last job due to company-wide layoffs, she was unemployed for about nine months before she was hired through Skills as an Area Teller at Associated Bank. Realizing her previous experience, Lynnettra’s manager had a conversation with her about her career goals, and she was promoted to a Banker just one month later.
We talked to Lynnettra about her experience working with Skills and her career goals with Associated Bank.
What brought you to Skills?
I was unemployed and applying for a lot of jobs. Everyone said they were hiring, but they really weren’t. It got to the point where it didn’t matter if it was an entry level position, I just needed a job. I don’t remember exactly how I found Skills, but I must have applied to one of their banking roles online because I got a call from DeAnna [on the Talent Acquisition Team] where I interviewed and was hired.
How was your experience working with the Skills staff?
DeAnna was very positive and knowledgeable. She asked me what I was looking for and gave me many options. She also provided suggestions for my resume, which I appreciated.
How did it feel when you were offered the position with Associated Bank?
I was excited. They offered me the position shortly after my interview, and I was like, “For real?!”
And when I was offered the promotion, I was shocked. When I started my training, they had me working on transactions right away and told me I had the skills and personality for a banker. I am always interested in learning new things, but I didn’t think it would happen that quickly.
How has Associated Bank helped you grow?
I like it at Associated Bank. They’re all about growth and giving you the tools to get to where you want to go. I would absolutely love to be a manager or work as an Operations Specialist down the road.
Would you recommend Skills to other job seekers?
Definitely! They do what they say they’re going to do. They take the time to work with you and tweak your resume, and the follow-up is amazing.
