Faiza graduated from college and spent time building her skillset and gaining experience with internships. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she found herself unable to find a job because of the difficulties it caused in the job market. Overall, she had a great skillset from years of internships that she wanted to put to good use.
After applying to a position through Skills, Faiza was happy to receive help navigating the interview process. She was pleased to find work with HUB International as a Seasonal Program Representative where she handled client accounts and helped clients with their insurance needs. Since then, Faiza has been promoted twice (first to a permanent Program Representative role and then to Team Lead) and serves as a valuable part of HUB International’s team.
We spoke to Faiza about her experience working with Skills during her job search.
What brought you to Skills?
I was desperately looking for a job during the COVID-19 pandemic. I had just graduated and was doing unpaid internships. I was looking for a job to get my foot in the door and move up. I found Skills’ website, and it worked out great for me.
How was your experience working with the Skills staff?
The person I worked with was great. They were very professional. The process of him telling me how to prepare for interviews was great, and it was helpful how they helped me build good responses.
Bring me back to the moment when you were hired. How did it feel?
It felt great that I finally got a good paying full-time job after graduating. I was just really happy because during the pandemic I had a tough time trying to find a job. It made me feel relieved. Before Skills, it was tough for me. I was doing all these unpaid internships and I needed to find something fast.
How are you liking your job so far? How has HUB International and Skills helped you grow?
It’s been great. I’m happy that I’ve been able to grow with HUB International. I’ve been with them for almost 3 years now and my manager mentioned that I may get promoted again.
What opportunities has this job provided for you?
This job has helped me build my resume, build management skills, and move up the ladder. I’ve liked being able to work in an office.
What are your career goals and how do you feel HUB International is/will support them?
I wanted to go into management and this job supported that. My manager has created new roles, and it has helped me challenge myself and has also given me the opportunity to build. These promotions have given me the opportunity to do things I never thought I could do.
Would you recommend Skills to other job seekers?
I would recommend Skills because the person who helped me was professional and helped me prepare for the interview. I feel like they would do the same for someone else. For anyone who needs to find a job, I feel like Skills is the best place to go.
